At the end of 2022, there were three fully electric pickup trucks on the market. These are the Rivian R1T, the Hummer EV Pickup, and the highly popular Ford F-150 Lightning.

Over $2.2 Billion dollars were spent on just these three trucks alone!

66% of these sales were from the Rivian R1T, 29% of the sales were Ford F-150 Lightnings, and 4.2% of sales were from the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

Compared to total pickup truck sales, EV trucks make up 1.8% of the total pickup trucks sold in the U.S. in 2022 and 2.3% of total sales revenue.

In total, Americans spent over $95 billion dollars on pickup trucks in 2022. See full breakdown in 2022 Pickup Truck Sales Data.

Rivian R1T 2022 Sales

The Rivian R1T was the first full electric pickup truck that was launched to market. It was supposed to initially launch in at the end of 2022, but after a few delays was launched in September 2021 (Source).

In 2022, Rivian delivered 20,332 vehicles (Rivian.com). This includes both the R1T pickup and the R1S van. More than likely, most vehicles sold were the R1T, but this isn’t confirmed. For the sake of this report, we are assuming that the entire volume is the R1T, which is above the actual amount, which hasn’t been specifically reported by Rivian.

The 2022 Rivian R1T had a minimum MSRP of $73,000. This means that upwards of $1.4 billion dollars was spent on the Rivian R1T in 2022.

Rivian R1T Overview

Rivian R1T: Image taken by Rivian under the following license

The Rivian R1T is a luxury electric pickup truck with premium leather seats and wood interior. It has a panoramic moonroof with a Driver+ hands-free driving assistant. It is a very high tech vehicle with 11 built in cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 5 radars.

It’s also has some of the top pickup truck performance with up to an 11,000 lb towing capacity with all-whee drive and an expected charge range of 260-400 miles (Rivian.com). There is only one trim level with a few extra options for customization.

Ford F-150 Lightning 2022 Sales

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the most affordable electric truck on the market, putting it in high demand.

In 2022, Ford sold 15,617 Ford F-150 Lightnings. This amounts to a minimum $652 million of sales for the F-150 Lightning based on a minimum MSRP of $41,769.

The Ford Lightning was first announced on May 19, 2021 at the Ford headquarters in Dearborn, MI (CNBC).

It took a full year for the truck to become available in the Spring of 2022.

The demand for this truck was incredible. By March, 2022, there were already over 200,000 preorders with a possible estimation of 3 years for delivery! (Motorbiscuit)

So it is clear that in 2022, Ford could not keep up with the demand and the low selling number in 2022 was due to manufacturing constraints rather than lack of interest.

Ford F-150 Lightning Overview

2022 Ford F150 Lightning: Image taken by Kevauto under the following license

The Ford Lightning is the most affordable electric pickup truck, with comparable performance to the Rivian R1T.

It has a slightly less towing capacity at a maximum of 10,000 lbs, and an estimated range of 320 miles. The power supplied is 580 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque.

There is a hands free mode for highway driving, and it offers many other high tech features, but is less luxurious than the R1T.

There are multiple trim levels offering variable levels of performance and extra features.

Hummer EV Pickup 2022 Sales

The Hummer brand which was discontinued in 2010 was maintained by GM and resurfaced in 2022 as the GMC Hummer EV brand.

So in 2022, GMC offered the Hummer EV Pickup. Sales for this truck officially opened in fall of 2021 (OctaneGMC).

In 2022, GMC sold 854 Hummer EV pickup trucks yielding at least $94 million in sales with a minimum MSRP of 110,295.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup Overview

2022 Hummer EV Pickup: Image taken by DestinationFearFan under the following license

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is the most expensive electric pickup truck of the three options. This creates a high barrier to entry for many consumers which contributes to the low sales in 2022.

But with it’s high price, you are paying for the premium brand name Hummer.

This electric pickup has the lowest towing capacity of the group at 6,000 lbs, but can provide up to 1000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.

It has a comparable range of estimate 350 miles per charge.

It also comes with driving assist for hands free driving for compatible roads, just like the other trucks on this list.

One of the very unique features of this pickup are the modular, removable and adjustable fully transparent sky panels for incredible viewing from the inside of the truck.

It prides itself on its off road capabilities having a crab walk (diagonal driving), high tech real time vehicle data, underbody cameras, and adjustable ride height (GMC).

The Future of the Electric Pickup Truck

Electric pickup trucks, as well as electric vehicles are growing in popularity. Pickup trucks have been particularly challenging because electric pickup trucks can’t provide the same level of power and utility that historical pickup trucks have been able to do.

However, this year, we saw some great performance for the first generation of electric pickup trucks.

With the release of the Ford F-150 Lightning, a more affordable option has entered the market forcing other manufacturers to produce an affordable and capable truck.

We are seeing that come in the industry with the recent announcement of the RAM Revolution, and the expected upcoming GMC Sierra EV, Chevy Silverado EV, and the Toyota Tacoma EV.

If Ford can keep up with the high demand, we would expect the F-150 Lightning to dominate total EV pickup truck sales in 2023.

Looking to buy a used Chevy Colorado? Avoid 2017-2019!

There was a recent reddit thread asking if there were specific years to avoid for the Chevy Colorado. There was an overwhelming response to avoid the 2017-2019 models.

      Years to avoid from chevycolorado

It seems that during these years, there was significant issues with transmission shuttering. This was identified as the 8-speed being the problem.

The NHTSA released a Service Bulletin specifically mentioning this issue. In this issue, it mentions that there is a shudder when accelerating in the 2017-2019 Chevy Colorado (as well as other GM vehicles).

Any vehicle made over March 1, 2019 should not have this specific issue.

This document also walks through how to service the vehicle if experiencing this problem. Which is simply replacing the transmission fluid.

But why does that mean you should potentially avoid it?

Well it is possible that the transmission experienced some problems and was already damaged, or you may just get a vehicle with this problem and need to pay for the fix. If there is shuttering, then there is a possibility of the torque converter slipping which would cause greater damage.

Damage to the transmission can be very costly and time consuming. One redditor who experienced this problem waited over 4 months to get the transmission replaced and just gave up.

2022 Chevrolet Colorado: Image taken by Noah Wulf under the following license

What to look for when buying a 2017-2019 Chevy Colorado?

If you are thinking of buying a 2017-2019 Chevy Colorado, you can still think about buying one, but you’ll want to keep a few things in mind.

If you test drive it and experience this slipping, then you should not buy this vehicle. There could be costly damage to the transmission.

Take a look at the maintenance and vehicle history to see if any major work has been done on the vehicle, specifically the transmission.

If the truck seems to drive smoothly, and everything else seems ok, you can consider buying, but it is recommended that you still get the transmission fluid changed in accordance with the TSB to prevent any damage.

On May 19, 2021, Ford announced the F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup truck. Within the first four days of ordering, Ford received 69,500 deposited orders.

Reservations converted to real orders on Jan 6, 2022 and finished the year with only 15,617 F-150 Lightnings sold.

This redditor posted that they just were offered to purchase the Lightning, but are considering whether it is worth it to buy.

Why would you back out of purchasing the Lightning?

The Ford Lightning since 2022 experienced a $12,000 price increase. (Source)

This is the exact reason this redditor is considering dropping the vehicle.

They may have already put in a non-refundable deposit. This will come down to the specific contract which was signed.

Can the Ford Price Protection Apply?

The answer to this will depend on the situation:

He was on the reservation list for 2022 and extended to 2023, and placed an order

He was on the reservation list for 2022 and extended to 2023, and did not place an order yet

He was offered to purchase a 2022 vehicle

Based on his description, it sounds like he was on the reservation list and then offered to order.

If that is the case, he cannot get price protection.

It all comes down to whether an order sheet was created for the vehicle (Check out: full details on price protection)

So if you in the situation in which you have a order sheet, you can purchase it at the set price and do not need to worry about the increase.

But what should you do if you don’t have an order yet? Well lets discuss the options.

Other COnsiderations

For some trucks, people have been waiting a very long time for a truck to be delivered after ordering.

For example, the 2022 Ford Maverick is taking some customers over 15 months!

When you pre-order, you are waiting for Ford to specifically make the truck with the features you selected rather than creating a more generic and wide-spread truck. This will likely delay the ability to have the Lightning in hand.

Secondly, you might just feel like it is too early to jump into the electric car/truck market. This is the first version offered by Ford and it is unknown what is to come. Could it get better? Is the technology really there yet?

You also may just be waiting for other electric trucks to come out. As of Jan 5, 2023 the RAM Revolution concept was just announced as another major competitor in this market. Because it has taken so long for customers to get their trucks, the initial desire to be first to own an electric truck may have passed.

Similarly, many high quality hybrids are coming out on the market, even through Ford such as the Maverick and F-150 Powerboost.

What can you do if you don’t want your F-150 Lightning?

I believe Ford offers a refundable deposit on reservations and orders, so you can probably just back out.

Another option is that you can sell it back to the dealer.

One redditor on this post commented that you could get it delivered and sell it back to the dealer. The dealership he purchased from immediately sent an offer higher than what he just paid.

You can even check to see if the dealership is willing to take your order. FlurryWarHampster said that his dad, who owns a dealership, was paying customers $500 for taking their lightning orders.

Both of these options are worth considering and/or asking if you are stuck purchasing or don’t want to just back out and want to try to make some money.

Conclusion

So you may surprised that the new lightning has experienced quite a bump in cost and are not sure if you still want to buy.

First thing you need to check is if your price is protected through an order sheet.

Then, if not, you can either simply back out or try to get the dealer to pay you for your order/truck.

We’d love to know your thoughts on whether or not you think pre-ordering the Ford F-150 Lightning is worth it? Have you placed an order? Do you currently have one?

Price protection is a guarantee offered by Ford that when you receive and pay for your truck you receive the price that was originally offered to you.

Price protection is a guarantee offered by Ford that when you receive and pay for your truck you receive the price that was originally offered to you.

I was intrigued to understand this better when this guy posted this question on Reddit.

Does anyone know for sure how the 2022 pricing protection program works? Ford marketing told me I’m not qualified from F150Lightning

After some research I have found that this is offered to those who have already placed orders and signed some type of contract for delivery and purchase.

There may be another form of price protection which you could receive which would be a private offer by the dealership through an “extend my reservation” invitation, but until an official order is made, no guarantee can be made.

This applies to all Ford vehicles, not just trucks.

If you have received an order sheet, you will be given the price on that order which your dealer has to respect.

What is the Ford Price Protection program?

Ford Price Protection provides a guarantee that you will only pay for the car or truck at the price in which the order was placed.

Because over time, demand and supply changes, when you receive a Ford vehicle, the price may change at the dealership.

This can be a surprise when you go to pick up your order and you get a new quote from the dealership for extra thousands of dollars above what you expect to pay.

The original price protection only comes from orders in which an order sheet is created. Simply being on a reservation list does not allow you to get price protection.

How to enforce Ford Price Protection?

Some dealers don’t understand that Ford guarantees the price protection and will tell you that the truck now costs more.

This guy walks through what exactly you need to tell your dealer if they say you are not qualified for price protection and need to pay the higher price.

You just have to make sure you have your order sheet on hand.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVkbgCiUWEQVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: HOW TO COMPLETE THE PRICE PROTECTION ON AN ORDERED VEHICLE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVkbgCiUWEQ)

When you place an order from the dealer, you will get a summary sheet with the price and features for which you ordered.

This is what documents the timing and price for which you ordered the vehicle.

If you receive exactly what is on the order sheet, you should be paying the price that was offered.

If you make any changes to the vehicle, the price will change with it.

According to this dealer above, when a dealer runs the vehicle and sets an invoice, they will need to manually go in to change the price and/or any incentives that were locked in at purchase.

Don’t fall for dealers that say you don’t get the protection and show them this video of how they can go an manually change the price.

According to this guy, Ford will cover the loss to the dealership to guarantee the price to the customer. Dealers will think they are losing out by not charging the higher price, and without knowing this information you could either pay higher or be forced out of a deal you were planning to take.

COnclusion

Ford offers price protection on all of their vehicles ordered in advanced. If you have gotten to the point in which you received an order sheet with a listed price, you will be locked into that price upon paying for and receiving your Ford.

Some dealerships will not understand this guarantee and will tell you that you need to pay the higher price.

Most dealers think they will lose out on the deal if they don’t sell for the higher price, but Ford pays the difference to the dealership.

Don’t fall for the trap! You deserve the price you expected to pay! Just make sure to read the fine print before you purchase to see if there is anything that deviates from what is said in this article.

The Ford Maverick has made a big splash for Ford as well as the pickup truck community.

The first Maverick was announced on June 8, 2021. Reservations opened in August of 2021 for the 2022 model and by 2.5 months later there had been over 100,000 reservations made.

Reservations do not mean orders or sales, but they are future interested buyers that have not put in a deposit.

By the end of 2022, Ford sold 74,370 Ford Maverick pickup trucks.

This demand continued to grow in 2022. With the 2023 Maverick on the way, reservations for the 2022 Maverick converted to 2023. Still, some 2022 orders haven’t come in while Ford is fulfilling 2023 orders.

Ford had to restrict orders for the 2023 truck within 5 days of preorders opening. It started in September 15, 2022 and was closed on September 20, 2022.

But why is this truck so desired? What is causing such high demand?

Why is it so hard to get this car? from FordMaverickTruck

What is the Ford Maverick in such high demand?

One of the biggest draws to the Ford Maverick is the price. At is base price in 2022, the Maverick was listed for under $20,000!

The only other pickup truck close is the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The appeal of having a Ford truck and being manufactured by the leading truck brand in the country is possibly a big factor in popularity.

In my opinion, the Maverick is much better looking that the Santa Cruz because it actually looks like a pickup truck rather than a converted SUV to truck.

Though the Ford Maverick comes with two different engines a hybrid as well as the EcoBoost, the hybrid seems to be the biggest draw.

The hybrid version gets an estimate 37 mpg which greatly surpasses any other pickup trucks on the market. This hybrid, however, only comes in FWD so it is not fit for those requiring AWD capabilities.

Knowing this, one of the reasons this has taken off is that it gives a financially efficient truck option which is great for regular drivers.

For those not looking to tow or move large cargo, this compact pickup truck provides the look and feel of a pickup truck with the price of a sedan.

It seems to draw in the interest of non-pickup drivers because of this exact reasoning.

One commenter on the reddit post mentioned above thinks that Ford is purposefully creating more demand than supply because the margins must be low. At such a low price point, it is possible that compared to other pickup trucks in the Ford portfolio, they do not make as much money on a per car basis.

This redditor thinks that Ford is trying to “force” buyers into upgrading to the F-150.

This seems a little hard to believe because of the total Ford truck sales, 9.4% of that still came from the Maverick.

See: 2022 Top Selling U.S. Pickup Trucks (Ranked)

We’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes the Maverick so appealing!

At 5:30 EST on January 5th, 2023, the RAM EV concept was announced as the RAM Revolution at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

This article will discuss what was revealed at the conference and what RAM has announced so far on their website: ramtrucks.com

What we Know So Far

The RAM Revolution, or to be known as RAM Rev, is a 2024 all electric vehicle to be released as a full-sized pickup truck.

It will likely start to take orders in 2024 and the production version will be released in the coming few months.

As this is a concept vehicle, there are things that still may change when the car goes into production.

Ram is the last of the major other competitors to release the concept of an EV truck, after the first concept from the Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T and Ford F150 Lightning are already on the road.

Chevy, GMC, and Toyota have all also previously released their concept of EV truck.

Even though it is a bit late in the game, it still wants to compete; it is making efforts to make a statement in the electric pickup truck market.

Exterior of the Revolution

The RAM revolution is riding on the electric truck look that was first coined by the Cybertruck.

It features a tall body, large cab, and a small truck bed (compared to similar trucks).

The extra space is due to the new STLE frame with is 4 inches longer than the current 2023 RAM 1500.

In the rear there is a diffuser that reduces drag to improve efficiency. The truck bed is equipped with a multifunction tailgate that opens like a double door, is powered and can extend the bed with an adjustable flooring.

In the front of the RAM Revolution is a new LED brand label.

On the front of the truck there are also tow hooks and an extended skid plate to offer extra off-roading capabilities.

As with most electric trucks, there is what is called a “frunk” or front truck, which is fully powered. What makes this feature quite unique is that there is a compartment that opens from the front trunk into the cab to accommodate large items (like many cars have for trunks.

On the side of the vehicle is the RAMBOX which has a dual tiered storage system with anchor rings for maximizing storage.

And to access the truck the concept includes a “pillarless” entryway with saloon style doors and powered side steps.

Interior of the Revolution

The interior is a very large and versatile cab. It has notably larger space throughout the cab, and especially in the rear compared to the 2023 RAM 1500.

There is likely going to be a 3rd row of seats! These are jump seats sitting in the back of the cab. The middle seats (or second row) are fully adjustable, seats which can fold flat and be repositioned to allow more space for cargo or third row passengers.

To follow along with the sustainability trend, RAM is designing the RAM Revolution interior materials to contain up to 74% polyester made from recycled water bottles and flooring made from recycled rubber and cork.

As mentioned in the prior section, the RAM Revolution has an opening that connects the front truck to the cab, but throughout the length of the truck running from the front trunk, cab and truck bed is a Ram Track Rail System lined on the floor to secure and support cargo throughout the vehicle. The center console can also be removed to create more space.

When it comes to the dashboard and control center in the front row, there are 28 inches of available touch screen area. It is composed of two screens with the bottom being removable.

Along with features iconic to the Tesla, there will be Level 3+ automomous driving control which means that it will allow for hands free driving to some extent (at the minimum) (Source: JD Power).

Our Opinion

What We Don’t Like

Upon first review of the RAM Revolution, we can honestly say that we do not like the design. It looks funny.

The large cab style, small windows, and tall base seem for a funny looking truck. Seems to us that they are trying to go for the Cybertruck look.

This feels a bit more like an oversized Crossover with a truck bed rather than a real pickup truck. The cab is just so big. I mean it has a third row! Trucks aren’t designed to be passenger cars and the RAM Revolution seems to be trying to cross that bridge between pickup trucks and crossovers.

The Ford F150 Lightning looks much better in our opinion. It looks more like a regular truck with some special features to make it feel more electric.

I also don’t love the idea of having 28 inches of display area. Though this will be a self-driving car (at least to an extent) there is no need for that much screen area.

What We Like

There are however, some really cool features on this truck. The first one to note is the Trail Rail System that extends throughout the entire truck. It is so cool to think that something, like a piece of wood could enter from the truck bed, and extend the length of the cab into the front truck to completely be encapsulated by the truck is wild.

I do appreciate their dedication and ability to incorporate recycled materials into the inside of the cab. As someone who cares about sustainability and reducing waste, this is great to see. Hopefully it can lead the way for new innovation.

And the last feature thats really interesting is the second screen being able to be removed. Though it is a bit excessive to have two screens on a dashboard, RAM has identified that they are making the second device detachable to be used basically as a in car tablet. Likely it will be able to be used for video watching for passengers, or sharing documents for workers on-site.

What We Don’t Know About the RAM Revolution

Because we have just been given the concept, there are lots of things that we still don’t know.

Though there was mention of potential range and charging capabilities, there is no official word really on the capabilities of the truck including estimated range, towing capacity, or payload capacity.

One of the biggest questions I have here is the “pillarless” design of the saloon doors. Structurally, I don’t think it is a good idea to have this format because it is not as safe as cars with mid frame beams. Along the idea of safety, we don’t know how this truck will match up to others.

And the last thing we don’t know of course, is the price. How will this align with what is currently on the market?

This reddit user just posted a great review of the 2022 F-150 FX4. This person primarily uses their vehicle on flat roads at higher speeds, but does lots of plowing in the winter months.

The verdict from this user is that there are no complaints.

      Review so far of 2022 F-150 FX4 5.0 V8 from f150

2022 F-150 FX4 Review

According to this reddit thread, there are very few if no complaints about the truck so far.

It seems to supply instant power yielding a smooth ride with minimal to no road noise.

The electronics are strong with great audio systems and connectivity as well as the cameras. There is a front, rear and 360 view on this guy’s truck!

One incredible comment he made is that his truck gets 20 mpg with his driving. That is amazing for this truck. Most other users here have said they haven’t even come close to this number.

The user here has 20 tires and claims to drive on mostly highway and fast driving with quite flat terrain.

Photo taken by RL GNZLZ under the following license (No changes made)

Other Features in this Review

The vehicle this guy ordered was not actually his vehicle. He did not place the order in 2021 like most people. There was someone else that customized and placed the order, but backed out of the deal when it became available. That’s where this guy stepped in.

The truck here had:

Double Pane Moon Roof

Blank Interior

Heated Seats

Remote Start

Tow Package

What Stands Out

From this review, there was lots of positive feedback. The only thing in question seemed to be the fuel efficiency, but that aside, all comments were in support of this review.

What got the most discussion is the plowing capabilities. With this truck having a great 4×4 engine, it can handle tough conditions which make it great for plowing.

The O.P. said it takes him just a few minutes to get his plow set up. This is the process he follows:

“The plow has a jack stand that you set down once the tower is lowered as far as it can using it’s own hydraulics. When you want to hook up, just use the front camera to line up the bracket, set the pins to lock on the plow, raise the tower into position, then connect the electric cables and raise the jack stand back up.”

So if you come across a 2022 F-150 FX4, and live somewhere with lots of snow, you may want to consider this truck!

If you ordered a 2023 Ford Maverick you may be in luck! The turnaround times for the 2023 may be much lower than the 2022.

This reddit user just posted that they just received their 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid from their local dealer which they ordered in August of 2022.

This post received a lot of attention because a ton of Ford customers haven’t even received their 2022 models yet.

Just picked up my 23’ Ford Maverick lariat. Ordered in august. from FordMaverickTruck

There have been numerous reports on supply constraints which have caused delays of over a year for the 2022 Maverick.

Some of the commenters on Reddit have mentioned they placed orders for the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid in October 2021. Some still haven’t received it yet!

One of them has been waiting 15 months and still hasn’t heard it been built yet. Another just had theirs built in December of 2022 and is being shipped at the dealer. Another received an email with a status that Ford plans to continue manufacturing on January 9th, 2023 for the previously ordered truck.

This could be just a sign of luck, but it is also a sign that Ford will be able to build the 2023 Maverick and complete orders before the 2022 Mavericks.

Unfortunately if you haven’t already made an order for the 2023 Maverick, it will be difficult to ever get on the list because the demand is so high. Orders opened up in September 2022 but quickly closed from demand after 7 days.

Will this trend continue? Will Ford ever catch up to the demand? Will 2023 orders open up again?

This user on reddit posted that they exchanged their Rivian R1T for a Ford Lightning. Was this the right choice? We’ll discuss here the major differences between the two and which is best for what type of truck owner.

Traded in my Rivian R1T for a Lightning from F150Lightning

Was this the right choice?

Both the Rivian R1T and the Lightning are full electric pickup trucks.

Both have been around for over a year. The Rivian R1T, however, can only be reserved through the website where the F150 Lightning is available at some dealerships.

(Jump to top comments on Reddit)

Rivian R1T vs Ford Lightning

In general, the R1T and Lightning are quite different vehicles. The price, range, capabilities and size are all different.

Rivian R1T

Ford Lightning

Cost

73,000 lbs

56,000 lbs

Range

260-400 miles

240 miles

Capabilities

11,000 lbs
towing capacity

7,700 lbs
towing capacity

Storage
front truck
total storage

14.13 cu.ft

11.1 cu.ft
62 cu.ft

Bed Length

54.1 in

66 in

Cost

The Rivian R1T is known to be a luxury pickup truck sitting at a staritng MSRP of $73,000 (Rivian.com).

Ford Lightning is much cheaper at $56,000 (ford.com).

Range

The Rivian R1T lists multiple range options between 260 and 400 miles. These are both larger than the 240 range estimated by the Ford Lightning.

The R1T has more options that change this variable more than the Lightning.

Capabilities

Though Ford is known to supply heavy duty trucks on the market with large capacities, Ford falls short compared to the R1T in towing capacity.

The Rivian R1T can tow 11,000 lbs and the Ford Lightning can tow up to 7,700 lbs.

Storage

Outside from the truck bed, electric cars have additional storage in the front truck.

The Ford has a bigger truck by 3 cu.ft and can accommodate 400 lbs.

Though the Rivian R1T has limited front truck space, it offers an additional 50 cu.ft of storage though a rear storage bin and under seat compartments.

The truck bed, however is larger in the Ford Lightning than the R1T by 1 ft making it more capable to transport large items.

What People are Saying

The comments on this reddit post are quite interesting.

A common note between the two was the that F150 Lightning had a much smoother ride. The Rivian R1T is a bit jerky and bumpy.

Though the Rivian R1T is a more luxurious car with premium leather and wood interior, it has a much smaller cab compared to the Lightning.

Though many F150s are equipped for off roading, the R1T is better in this area because of the high ground clearance and improved towing capacity.

Verdict

So it is hard to compare the two as there are benefits and downsides to both.

If you are looking for a more premium car with better performance and capabilities, the Rivian R1T would be the right pick.

For someone looking for a cheaper option for regular driving with lots of cab space and a larger truck bed would be happy with the F150 Lightning.
