2020 Ford F150 Towing Capacity

If you have a 2020 Ford F150 and need to know the towing capacity of your truck you have come to the right place.

Here you will find all of the GCWRs and max trailer towing weights suggested by Ford. The information here is taken in combination with the 2020 Owner’s Manual and the 2020 Ford Trailer Towing Guide Brochure as well as the 2020 F150 Brochure.

The 2020 F150 has a max trailer towing capacity of 5,000 – 13,200 lbs for all automatic transmission trucks. In order for the F150 to accommodate these weights, the F150 will require either the Trailer Towing Package or the Max Trailer Towing Package. Without these packages, a trailer should never exceed 5,000 lbs.

Ford says that the tongue weight for any towing should be no more than 10% of the trailer weight. So without a weight distributing hitch, the tongue weight cannot exceed 500 lbs.

Though I tried to make this information as accurate as possible, you should always check your manual or contact your local dealer to determine the appropriate towing capacity of your vehicle and necessary equipment.

Trims

There are 7 trims in the 2020 F150 series. The main difference between these trim levels is the options available and the cosmetic additions that can be added (Source). Each of these trim levels has various package options, bed lengths, cab sizes, and engine types, but this post will not go through all the options.

Cab and Bed Sizes

The cab types in the 2020 F150 are regular/standard, SuperCab and SuperCrew.

The regular is a single-row seating cab, while the SuperCab and SuperCrew can support two different rows of passengers.

The SuperCab is slightly smaller than the SuperCrew in both length, rear-seat space, and rear door sizes.

Bed Sizes

There are three main bed sizes for the 2020 F150. These include the short, standard, and long bed.

The short bed is 5.5 ft, the standard bed is 6.5 ft, and the long bed I 8 ft.

Not all bed sizes are available with every cab size or every trim. Since the regular cab is the smallest, it can accommodate both the 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed sizes.

For all trims, the Super Cab only allows the option for 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed sizes.

And the SuperCrew, being the largest is offered in the 5.5 and 6.5 ft bed sizes.

Packages

Ford states that a max trailer capacity of 5,000 lbs should never be exceeded unless you have one of the two packages listed below.

All come with 4 pin wiring harness, a tow/haul mode, and trailer sway control.

Class IV Trailer Hitch

This package provides the 3.3 and 2.7 L engines with the capability to tow up to 6,000 lbs and 7,000 lbs with the 3.5 L, 5.0 L, and 3.0 L engines. This package also includes:

4/7 pin wiring harness
Class IV Towing Trailer Hitch Receiver
Smart Trailer Tow Connector

This package comes standard on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited, but is available as an add-on with the XL and XLT.

Heavy-Duty Payload Package

The Heavy Duty Payload Package both increased the payload capabilities and towing capacities (in some cases). It includes:

18 in aluminum wheels
Upgraded Springs
3.73 Axle Ratio
All Terrain Tires

This package is only available in the 3.3 L, 5.0 L or 3.5 L EcoBoost engine in the XL and XLT.

2.7 L EcoBoost Payload Package

The 2.7 L EcoBoost Payload Package is, just as the name suggests available with the 2.7 L EcoBoost engine. This is only available with the XL and XLT trims.

Trailer Tow Package

This package is the package required to tow up to 11,500 lbs. It comes standard on the Raptor, and is available on the XL. This package includes:

4/7 pin wiring harness
Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver
Smart Trailer Tow Connector

There is also a version of the Trailer Tow Package that includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist. This is available on all trims except the Raptor.

Max Trailer Tow Package

The Max Trailer Tow Package in the 2020 Ford F150 has all the same features as the Trailer Tow Package but also includes:

Trailer Brake controller
Upgraded rear bumper

This package is required for towing capacities up to 13,200 lbs and is only available on the XL.

Towing Capacity by Engine

To determine the towing capacity of your vehicle, you need to know the:

engine type
bed size
cab size
drivetrain
axle ratio

If you know all of these items, then move on to the next section by engine to determine your towing capacity.

If not:

Start with the VIN decoder from Autozone to determine the engine in the vehicle
measure the bed size with a tape measure to determine whether you have a 5.5, 6.5 or 8 ft bed
The cab size should be evident by whether or not you have two rows and if the back doors are full-sized
Drivetrain should be determined with the VIN as well
The axle ratio will be listed on the side of the driver’s door on the certification sticker

2020 Ford F150 Axle Ratio Codes

The 2020 F150 comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission in all engines.

2.7 L EcoBoost V6

The 2.7 L EcoBoost engine is a new engine introduced in the 2020 F150 series. It is a smaller EcoBoost engine in the family with a 3.5 L. It has 325 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 400 lb.-ft of torque @2,750 rpm.

The 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 engine in the 2020 Ford F150 has an automatic transmission and has a maximum towing capacity of 7,500 – 9,000 lbs.

3.0 L Turbo Diesel V6

The 3.0L Turbo-Diesel V6 engine is new to the F150 family this year. It has a hp of 250 @3,250 rpm and a torque of 440 lb.-ft @1,750 rpm.

The automatic transmissions in the 3.0 L Turbo-Diesel V6 engine in the 2020 F150 series have a maximum towing capacity of 10,100 – 11,500 lbs.

3.3 L Ti-VCT V6

The 3.3 L Ti-VCT V6 engine has the lowest power of the 2020 F-series engines. It has a hp of 290 @ 6,500 rpm and a torque of 265 lb.-ft @ 4,000 rpm.

The automatic transmissions in the 3.3 L Ti-VCT V6 engine in the 2020 F150 series have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 – 7,700 lbs.

3.5 L EcoBoost V6

The other EcoBoost engine in the F150 series is the 3.5 L. It has a hp of 375 @5,000 rpm and a torque of 470 lb.-ft @3,500 rpm. This engine supplies the most towing power of the entire family and so it is best for towing heavy loads.

Continued in 2020 is the High Output 3.5 L EcoBoost. This engine is supplied in the Raptor trim of the F150 and only has a max towing capacity of 8,000 lbs. It is the most powerful engine in the series with 450 hp @ 5,000 and 510 lb.-ft of torque @3,500.

The automatic transmissions in the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine in the 2020 F150 series have a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 – 13,200 lbs.

2020 F150 5th Wheel Towing Capacity

Ford does not offer any kind of 5th-wheel towing hitch, so in order to use your F150 for 5th-wheel towing, you will need to get your own hitch installed.

Upon installation and setup, before you tow, you also should have a tongue weight (also known as king pin load weight for 5th wheel) of 15% compared to the 10% in conventional towing.

Payload Capacity

There is no clear way that Ford lists the payload capacities of the 2020 F150. The best way to check the payload capacity is to find the GVWR listed on the certification sticker listed on the inside of the driver’s side door (see the image near the top of the article).

There is information, however on the maximum cargo weight (or maximum payload capacity) on F150 trucks with the Heavy-Duty Payload Package (see table below).

This is only available with the 3.5 L EcoBoost and 5.0 L V8 engine.

However, even if you have a hitch receiver, this does not mean that you can tow the capacities listed above. You first need a proper hitch receiver (Class III, Class IV), and a weight-distributing trailer hitch if towing above 5,000 lbs.

You can, however, tow with the 2020 F150 through a step bumper ball hitch. This can hold up to 5,000 lbs (with a weight-carrying trailer).

In either case with a weight-carrying trailer or weight-distributing trailer, the tongue weight should not exceed 10% of the total trailer weight (according to the Trailer Tow Guide).

There are three main bed sizes for the 2022 F150. These include the short, standard, and long bed.

The short bed is 5.5 ft, the standard bed is 6.5 ft, and the long bed I 8 ft.

Not all bed sizes are available with every cab size or every trim. Since the regular cab is the smallest, it can accommodate both the 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed sizes.

For all trims, the SuperCab only allows the option for 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed sizes.

And the SuperCrew, being the largest is offered in the 5.5 and 6.5 ft bed sizes.

Packages

There are some towing features which are standard on every 2022 F-150. These are:

Trailer Wiring Harness 4 pin
Tow/Haul Mode
Trailer Sway Control

However, Ford states that a max trailer capacity of 5,000 lbs should never be exceeded unless you have one of the two packages listed below.

Class IV Trailer Hitch

This package provides the 3.3 and 2.7 L engines with the capability to tow up to 6,000 lbs and 7,000 lbs with the 3.5 L, 5.0 L, and 3.0 L engines. This package also includes:

Smart Trailer Tow Connector

This package comes standard on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited, but is available as an add-on with the XL and XLT.

Tow Technology Package (17T)

The Tow Technology package does not increase performance for towing, but adds features that make it easier to drive and setup your truck with a trailer. These include:

Heavy-Duty Payload Package (627)

The Heavy Duty Payload Package both increased the payload capabilities and towing capacities (in some cases). It includes:

All Terrain Tires
36 gallon fuel tank
GVWR of 7,850 lbs

This package is only available in the 5.0 L or 3.5 L EcoBoost engine in the XL and XLT.

2.7 L EcoBoost Payload Package (622)

The 2.7 L EcoBoost Payload Package is, just as the name suggests available with the 2.7 L EcoBoost engine. This is only available with the XL and XLT trims.

Trailer Tow Package (53B/53A)

This package is the package required to tow up to 11,500 lbs. It comes standard on the Raptor, and is available on the XL. This package includes:

4/7 pin wiring harness
Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver
Smart Trailer Tow Connector

There is also a version of the Trailer Tow Package that includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist. This is available on all trims except the Raptor.

Max Trailer Tow Package (53C)

The Max Trailer Tow Package in the 2022 Ford F150 has all the same features as the Trailer Tow Package but also includes:

Towing Capacity by Engine

To determine the towing capacity of your vehicle, you need to know the:

engine type
bed size
cab size
drivetrain
axle ratio

If you know all of these items, then move on to the next section by engine to determine your towing capacity.

If not:

Start with the VIN decoder from Autozone to determine the engine in the vehicle
measure the bed size with a tape measure to determine whether you have a 5.5, 6.5 or 8 ft bed
The cab size should be evident by whether or not you have two rows and if the back doors are full-sized
Drivetrain should be determined with the VIN as well
The axle ratio will be listed on the side of the driver’s door on the certification sticker

3.5 L EcoBoost V6

The other EcoBoost engine in the F150 series is the 3.5 L. It has a hp of 400 @ 6,000 rpm and a torque of 500 lb.-ft @ 3,100 rpm. This engine supplies the most towing power of the entire family and so it is best for towing heavy loads.

Continued in 2022 is the High Output 3.5 L EcoBoost. This engine is supplied in the Raptor trim of the F150 and only has a max towing capacity of 8,000 lbs. It is the most powerful engine in the series with 450 hp @ 5,000 and 510 lb.-ft of torque @3,500.

The automatic transmissions in the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine in the 2022 F150 series have a maximum towing capacity of 11,100 – 14,000 lbs.

Ford does not offer any kind of 5th-wheel towing hitch, so in order to use your F150 for 5th-wheel towing, you will need to get your own hitch installed.

Upon installation and setup, before you tow, you also should have a tongue weight (also known as king pin load weight for 5th wheel) of 15% compared to the 10% in conventional towing.

There is no clear way that Ford lists the payload capacities of the 2022 F150. The best way to check the payload capacity is to find the GVWR listed on the certification sticker listed on the inside of the driver’s side door (see image near top of article).

There is information, however on the maximum cargo weight (or maximum payload capacity) on F150 trucks with the Heavy-Duty Payload Package (see table below).

This is only available with the 3.5 L EcoBoost and 5.0 L V8 engine.

The Ford Maverick has two main engine types. What makes the Maverick special is that it is a full hybrid vehicle. BUT it is also available in a full gas engine as well.

The hybrid engine is the FWD 2.5L FHEV hybrid engine. It has 191 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 155 lb.-ft @ 4,000 rpm.

The gas 2.0L EcoBoost engine is available in both FWD and AWD. It is a more powerful engine having 250 hp @ 5,500 and 277 lb.-ft @ 3,000 rpm.

What makes the Maverick really attractive to many drivers is its fuel efficiency. The hybrid engine gets 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg highway.

The gas engine performs significantly worse in the city at 23-22 mpg (FWD/AWD) but only slightly lower on the highway at 30-29 mpg (FWD/AWD).

Compared to many other pickup trucks on the market, even the gas engine gets about 5 mpg better than most other trucks.

Maverick 4K tow package

The Maverick 4K Tow Package is the only tow upgrade offered to the Maverick. It does not do anything to the engine but adds a trailer hitch receiver with a seven-pin connector.

Ford Maverick Towing Capacity

All Ford Mavericks with either a hybrid or gas engine can tow a maximum of 2000 lbs according to Ford.

A Maverick with a gas engine and a 4K Towing Package has up to 4000 lbs towing capacity.

It is important to know that this is the maximum towing capacity and the actual towing capacity at any given point is dependent on cargo weight, accessories, and passenger weight.

Ford Maverick Payload Capacity

The payload capacity refers to the amount of cargo and extra weight that can be added to a truck.

In the Maverick, the payload capacity for all model and engine types is 1500 lbs.

This means that the maximum weight that can be added to your truck including passenger, cargo, and accessory weight cannot exceed 1500 lbs.

Similarly to towing capacity, you should always calculate your own payload capacity to determine whether or not you are within spec.

The Maverick weighs between 3,563 and 3,731 lbs. The hybrid version of the Maverick weighs 3,674 lbs.

The only factor that affects the curb weight of the vehicle is the engine and drive. Each of these options has their own weight.

Conclusion

This hybrid truck is desirable to many because it is cheap, can both carry and tow standard loads, has good gas mileage, and maintains the look of a pickup truck.

There are only a few options available to order which will yield 1500 lbs in payload capacity and 2000 lbs in towing capacity.

The 4K towing package adds an extra 2000 lbs to the towing capacity of the gas EcoBoost engine to a total of 4000 lbs.

If you plan to do any towing with your Maverick, you will either need to buy the 4K Towing Package or a hitch receiver since it does not come with one.

It is no surprise that the Ford Maverick is in high demand.

The demand was extremely high when it came out the first time and even higher when the 2023 was accepting offers.

Some people have received their 2023 Maverick before others have gotten then 2022 Maverick and people are annoyed!

This reddit thread (below) got a bit heated, but provided some interesting insight as to why some customers haven’t heard any updates from Ford, and how to potentially get your order moving faster.

What Impacts Ford Priority?

In this section we will discuss some potential reason why some 2023 Maverick orders are being completed before 2022 Maverick orders.

Ford Priority Codes

When you place an order, you will receive a priority code associated with it. This code will be a two digit number printed on your order summary.

A brand new order is given the code of 99. With a code like this, Ford won’t even look at the order created.

Something important to consider is that any order that has been converted from a 2022 Maverick to a 2023 Maverick will become a priority code 99.

When an order is ready to be placed, the dealership must manually go in and change this code to a number between 10-19. This indicates to Ford manufacturing that the order is ready to be completed.

A lower number on this scale will have higher priority.

Some Ford orders may see that they have a code labeled “02”. This is a different type of priority code.

When a code is in priority 10-19 Ford has not yet acknowledged the order.

When an order moves to priority 2, it is basically a way of Ford telling you that you were supposed to be next on the list, but due to some kind of constraints, your order was not scheduled.

When you are priority 2 it doesn’t necessarily mean that your truck will be built next, but it does put you on the top of the priority list. When Ford allocates a truck to your dealer, they will check to see if the can fulfill orders with priority code 2 before they look at orders with priority code 10.

Dealership Allocation

So mentioned in the prior section is dealership allocation.

Dealerships can not order and fulfill as many orders as they place. Based on historical data, size, and location, dealerships are awarded a certain number of allocations.

An truck order can only be scheduled if the dealership has been granted an allocation for that inventory.

So some dealerships simply have higher demand than they are awarded to fulfill which increases the lead time.

Why your order may not have been fulfilled yet

Your order may not have been fulfilled for a couple of reasons.

The first reason is that your are stuck in priority 2 because of some manufacturing constraint. In this case, you are in the top priority level, but Ford is facing issues with completing your order.

The second reason could be that your order has not made it past priority 99. This means that your order will never be fulfilled by Ford until your dealership manually goes into the system and changes that request.

Another reason is simply that you ordered from a small dealership and they haven’t been granted enough allocations to fill the order.

The last reason that you may think your order is behind is that you haven’t received any email updates. Some customers have noted that when their order changed, for whatever reason, the new order was not connected with another email so there were no status updates due to a lack of a communication channel.

So what can you do about this issues?

What can you do to potentially speed up your order

One of the biggest reasons that 2023 Mavericks are being delivered before 2022 Mavericks is that larger dealerships are getting through their orders first. This is something that customers can’t control. Keep this in mind for the future that dealership location impacts fulfillment times.

Unfortunately, if you are in priority 2, there isn’t much you can do except wait. You are at the highest level and are at the mercy of Ford to choose to schedule your build.

If you are at any other priority code, you should contact the dealership and request to be put at 10. You absolutely want to make sure that you are not at 99, but if you have been waiting a very long time for your order, the dealership may be willing to manually bump you up to 10 which is the highest priority the dealer can set. (Some dealerships may forget about old orders and prioritize new orders before old orders).

The last thing you can do is to call Ford customer service to get the VIN and determine the status of your vehicle. If you feel you haven’t had any communications, there could possibly be some error in your contact information. So your truck may be in the works, and you just don’t know it yet.

Conclusion

You may be experiencing long wait times for your Ford because potentially:

You ordered from a small dealership that hasn’t gotten proper allocations
You have a priority code of 99

Preordering a Ford F-150 Lightning Worth It?

On May 19, 2021, Ford announced the F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup truck. Within the first four days of ordering, Ford received 69,500 deposited orders.

Reservations converted to real orders on Jan 6, 2022 and finished the year with only 15,617 F-150 Lightnings sold.

This redditor posted that they just were offered to purchase the Lightning, but are considering whether it is worth it to buy.

Why would you back out of purchasing the Lightning?

This is the exact reason this redditor is considering dropping the vehicle.

They may have already put in a non-refundable deposit. This will come down to the specific contract which was signed.

Can the Ford Price Protection Apply?

The answer to this will depend on the situation:

He was on the reservation list for 2022 and extended to 2023, and placed an order
He was on the reservation list for 2022 and extended to 2023, and did not place an order yet
He was offered to purchase a 2022 vehicle

Based on his description, it sounds like he was on the reservation list and then offered to order.

If that is the case, he cannot get price protection.

It all comes down to whether an order sheet was created for the vehicle (Check out: full details on price protection)

So if you in the situation in which you have a order sheet, you can purchase it at the set price and do not need to worry about the increase.

But what should you do if you don’t have an order yet? Well lets discuss the options.

Other COnsiderations

For some trucks, people have been waiting a very long time for a truck to be delivered after ordering.

For example, the 2022 Ford Maverick is taking some customers over 15 months!

When you pre-order, you are waiting for Ford to specifically make the truck with the features you selected rather than creating a more generic and wide-spread truck. This will likely delay the ability to have the Lightning in hand.

Secondly, you might just feel like it is too early to jump into the electric car/truck market. This is the first version offered by Ford and it is unknown what is to come. Could it get better? Is the technology really there yet?

You also may just be waiting for other electric trucks to come out. As of Jan 5, 2023 the RAM Revolution concept was just announced as another major competitor in this market. Because it has taken so long for customers to get their trucks, the initial desire to be first to own an electric truck may have passed.

Similarly, many high quality hybrids are coming out on the market, even through Ford such as the Maverick and F-150 Powerboost.

What can you do if you don’t want your F-150 Lightning?

I believe Ford offers a refundable deposit on reservations and orders, so you can probably just back out.

Another option is that you can sell it back to the dealer.

One redditor on this post commented that you could get it delivered and sell it back to the dealer. The dealership he purchased from immediately sent an offer higher than what he just paid.

You can even check to see if the dealership is willing to take your order. FlurryWarHampster said that his dad, who owns a dealership, was paying customers $500 for taking their lightning orders.

Both of these options are worth considering and/or asking if you are stuck purchasing or don’t want to just back out and want to try to make some money.

So you may surprised that the new lightning has experienced quite a bump in cost and are not sure if you still want to buy.

Price protection is a guarantee offered by Ford that when you receive and pay for your truck you receive the price that was originally offered to you.

I was intrigued to understand this better when this guy posted this question on Reddit.

Does anyone know for sure how the 2022 pricing protection program works? Ford marketing told me I’m not qualified from F150Lightning

After some research I have found that this is offered to those who have already placed orders and signed some type of contract for delivery and purchase.

There may be another form of price protection which you could receive which would be a private offer by the dealership through an “extend my reservation” invitation, but until an official order is made, no guarantee can be made.

This applies to all Ford vehicles, not just trucks.

If you have received an order sheet, you will be given the price on that order which your dealer has to respect.

What is the Ford Price Protection program?

Ford Price Protection provides a guarantee that you will only pay for the car or truck at the price in which the order was placed.

Because over time, demand and supply changes, when you receive a Ford vehicle, the price may change at the dealership.

This can be a surprise when you go to pick up your order and you get a new quote from the dealership for extra thousands of dollars above what you expect to pay.

The original price protection only comes from orders in which an order sheet is created. Simply being on a reservation list does not allow you to get price protection.

How to enforce Ford Price Protection?

Some dealers don’t understand that Ford guarantees the price protection and will tell you that the truck now costs more.

When you place an order from the dealer, you will get a summary sheet with the price and features for which you ordered.

This is what documents the timing and price for which you ordered the vehicle.

If you receive exactly what is on the order sheet, you should be paying the price that was offered.

If you make any changes to the vehicle, the price will change with it.

According to this dealer above, when a dealer runs the vehicle and sets an invoice, they will need to manually go in to change the price and/or any incentives that were locked in at purchase.

Don’t fall for dealers that say you don’t get the protection and show them this video of how they can go an manually change the price.

According to this guy, Ford will cover the loss to the dealership to guarantee the price to the customer. Dealers will think they are losing out by not charging the higher price, and without knowing this information you could either pay higher or be forced out of a deal you were planning to take.

COnclusion

Ford offers price protection on all of their vehicles ordered in advanced. If you have gotten to the point in which you received an order sheet with a listed price, you will be locked into that price upon paying for and receiving your Ford.

Some dealerships will not understand this guarantee and will tell you that you need to pay the higher price.

Most dealers think they will lose out on the deal if they don’t sell for the higher price, but Ford pays the difference to the dealership.

Don’t fall for the trap! You deserve the price you expected to pay! Just make sure to read the fine print before you purchase to see if there is anything that deviates from what is said in this article.

The Ford Maverick has made a big splash for Ford as well as the pickup truck community.

The first Maverick was announced on June 8, 2021. Reservations opened in August of 2021 for the 2022 model and by 2.5 months later there had been over 100,000 reservations made.

Reservations do not mean orders or sales, but they are future interested buyers that have not put in a deposit.

By the end of 2022, Ford sold 74,370 Ford Maverick pickup trucks.

This demand continued to grow in 2022. With the 2023 Maverick on the way, reservations for the 2022 Maverick converted to 2023. Still, some 2022 orders haven’t come in while Ford is fulfilling 2023 orders.

Ford had to restrict orders for the 2023 truck within 5 days of preorders opening. It started in September 15, 2022 and was closed on September 20, 2022.

But why is this truck so desired? What is causing such high demand?

What is the Ford Maverick in such high demand?

One of the biggest draws to the Ford Maverick is the price. At is base price in 2022, the Maverick was listed for under $20,000!

The only other pickup truck close is the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The appeal of having a Ford truck and being manufactured by the leading truck brand in the country is possibly a big factor in popularity.

In my opinion, the Maverick is much better looking that the Santa Cruz because it actually looks like a pickup truck rather than a converted SUV to truck.

Though the Ford Maverick comes with two different engines a hybrid as well as the EcoBoost, the hybrid seems to be the biggest draw.

The hybrid version gets an estimate 37 mpg which greatly surpasses any other pickup trucks on the market. This hybrid, however, only comes in FWD so it is not fit for those requiring AWD capabilities.

Knowing this, one of the reasons this has taken off is that it gives a financially efficient truck option which is great for regular drivers.

For those not looking to tow or move large cargo, this compact pickup truck provides the look and feel of a pickup truck with the price of a sedan.

It seems to draw in the interest of non-pickup drivers because of this exact reasoning.

One commenter on the reddit post mentioned above thinks that Ford is purposefully creating more demand than supply because the margins must be low. At such a low price point, it is possible that compared to other pickup trucks in the Ford portfolio, they do not make as much money on a per car basis.

This redditor thinks that Ford is trying to “force” buyers into upgrading to the F-150.

This seems a little hard to believe because of the total Ford truck sales, 9.4% of that still came from the Maverick.

2022 F-150 FX4 Review: Great for Plowing!

This reddit user just posted a great review of the 2022 F-150 FX4. This person primarily uses their vehicle on flat roads at higher speeds, but does lots of plowing in the winter months.

According to this reddit thread, there are very few if no complaints about the truck so far.

It seems to supply instant power yielding a smooth ride with minimal to no road noise.

The electronics are strong with great audio systems and connectivity as well as the cameras. There is a front, rear and 360 view on this guy’s truck!

One incredible comment he made is that his truck gets 20 mpg with his driving. That is amazing for this truck. Most other users here have said they haven’t even come close to this number.

The user here has 20 tires and claims to drive on mostly highway and fast driving with quite flat terrain.

The vehicle this guy ordered was not actually his vehicle. He did not place the order in 2021 like most people. There was someone else that customized and placed the order, but backed out of the deal when it became available. That’s where this guy stepped in.

What Stands Out

From this review, there was lots of positive feedback. The only thing in question seemed to be the fuel efficiency, but that aside, all comments were in support of this review.

What got the most discussion is the plowing capabilities. With this truck having a great 4×4 engine, it can handle tough conditions which make it great for plowing.

The O.P. said it takes him just a few minutes to get his plow set up. This is the process he follows:

“The plow has a jack stand that you set down once the tower is lowered as far as it can using it’s own hydraulics. When you want to hook up, just use the front camera to line up the bracket, set the pins to lock on the plow, raise the tower into position, then connect the electric cables and raise the jack stand back up.”

So if you come across a 2022 F-150 FX4, and live somewhere with lots of snow, you may want to consider this truck!

2023 Ford Maverick Delivered Before the 2022 model?!

If you ordered a 2023 Ford Maverick you may be in luck! The turnaround times for the 2023 may be much lower than the 2022.

This reddit user just posted that they just received their 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid from their local dealer which they ordered in August of 2022.

This post received a lot of attention because a ton of Ford customers haven’t even received their 2022 models yet.

There have been numerous reports on supply constraints which have caused delays of over a year for the 2022 Maverick.

Some of the commenters on Reddit have mentioned they placed orders for the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid in October 2021. Some still haven’t received it yet!

One of them has been waiting 15 months and still hasn’t heard it been built yet. Another just had theirs built in December of 2022 and is being shipped at the dealer. Another received an email with a status that Ford plans to continue manufacturing on January 9th, 2023 for the previously ordered truck.

This could be just a sign of luck, but it is also a sign that Ford will be able to build the 2023 Maverick and complete orders before the 2022 Mavericks.

Unfortunately if you haven’t already made an order for the 2023 Maverick, it will be difficult to ever get on the list because the demand is so high. Orders opened up in September 2022 but quickly closed from demand after 7 days.

In general, the R1T and Lightning are quite different vehicles. The price, range, capabilities and size are all different.

The Rivian R1T is known to be a luxury pickup truck sitting at a staritng MSRP of $73,000 (Rivian.com).

Ford Lightning is much cheaper at $56,000 (ford.com).

Range

The Rivian R1T lists multiple range options between 260 and 400 miles. These are both larger than the 240 range estimated by the Ford Lightning.

The R1T has more options that change this variable more than the Lightning.

Capabilities

Though Ford is known to supply heavy duty trucks on the market with large capacities, Ford falls short compared to the R1T in towing capacity.

The Rivian R1T can tow 11,000 lbs and the Ford Lightning can tow up to 7,700 lbs.

Storage

Outside from the truck bed, electric cars have additional storage in the front truck.

The Ford has a bigger truck by 3 cu.ft and can accommodate 400 lbs.

Though the Rivian R1T has limited front truck space, it offers an additional 50 cu.ft of storage though a rear storage bin and under seat compartments.

The truck bed, however is larger in the Ford Lightning than the R1T by 1 ft making it more capable to transport large items.

What People are Saying

The comments on this reddit post are quite interesting.

A common note between the two was the that F150 Lightning had a much smoother ride. The Rivian R1T is a bit jerky and bumpy.

Though the Rivian R1T is a more luxurious car with premium leather and wood interior, it has a much smaller cab compared to the Lightning.

Though many F150s are equipped for off roading, the R1T is better in this area because of the high ground clearance and improved towing capacity.

Verdict

So it is hard to compare the two as there are benefits and downsides to both.

If you are looking for a more premium car with better performance and capabilities, the Rivian R1T would be the right pick.
