Here you will find the towing capacities of the standard/stock towing capacity of each Ram 1500 by engine.

The towing capacity in the 2022 Ram 1500 ranges from 6,120 – 12,750 lbs. This is dependent on the cab size, bed size, drive, and most importantly engine. The engine type makes a big difference in the capabilities.

You should always use your own data to determine your towing capacity either through the manual or by calculating towing capacity on your own by using the weight capacities listed in your truck door.

Ram 1500 Trims

The Ram 1500 family has 9 trims.

• Tradesman
• Big Horn
• Sport
• Lone Star
• Laramie
• Rebel
• Limited Longhorn
• Limited
• TRX

Each of these models has various options for customization, engine selection, cab size, and bed size.

Not all of these trims come in every option available.

Below are the images of some of the different trims. As you can see there aren’t drastic differences between each trim. Mostly there are differences in the wheels and the front grilles.

Ram 1500 Cab Sizes

The Ram 1500 only has two cab sizes compared to other trucks.

There is no regular cab which only has one row. Each of the cab options has two rows and can seat up to 6 people.

Crew Cab

The crew cab is the larger of the two cab sizes. This cab features two rows of seating and two full doors.

The back and the front door are about the same size.

In the rear seats, there are 45.2 inches of legroom, making it very spacious for back seat passengers.

Quad Cab

The quad cab is smaller than the Crew Cab but still has 4 full doors. The doors here are significantly smaller in the back; they do have their own handles though. (See below)

There are only 35.6 inches of rear legroom.

where this makes a difference is in the overall length of the vehicle. Even with the same size bed, the Quad Cab is nearly 20 inches shorter than the Crew cab making it easier to fit into garages and smaller spaces without compromising on bed size.

Ram 1500 Bed Sizes

The Ram 1500 only has two bed sizes. They have a 5′ 7″ bed and a 6′ 4″ bed.

Every Quad Cab is equipped with the 6′ 4″ bed, but most trims with Crew Cabs have the option to be in either the short or long length.

This bed type is a fleetside truck meaning that the wheel wells stick out into the bed of the truck making the shape no longer perfectly rectangular.

This is very common for trucks.

Ram 1500 Engine Performance

There are 3 available engines in the Ram 1500. Not every trim is available with each engine, but there are definitely a lot of choices.

We will walk you through the specs of each to help you decide what engine you want, or identify what engine you have if you already have your truck.

5.7 L Hemi V8 Engine

This engine provides the highest available towing capacity.

It has a torque of 410 lb.-ft. and 395 hp.

Depending on the compatibility, this engine has a max towing capacity of 12,750 lbs.

This engine comes in both standard and with eTorque. To distinguish between the two, you will see a silver box labeled ram towards the front of the engine (as seen below).

3.6 L Pentastar V6 Engine with eTorque

The Pentastar engine with eTorque is the primary engine type in the standard trim models.

This engine is less powerful than the Hemi with 269 lb.-ft of torque and only 305 hp. Similarly, it can only tow a maximum capacity of 7,710 lbs.

Supercharged 6.2 L Hemi V8 Engine

The supercharged HEMI is a very unique engine in that it is only offered in the Ram 1500 TRX. It focuses on engine speed and force.

It has a torque of 650 lb.-ft and 702 hp.

It claims to have a 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Ram calls it “the most powerful factory-installed engine ever in a half-ton truck.”

If you have a TRX, you know you have a supercharged engine, otherwise, you will not have this under your hood.

3.0L Ecodiesel V6

The Ecodiesel engine is available in the Limited, Limited Longhorn, Laramie, and Big Horn trims.

Being a diesel engine is does offer the highest amount of torque at 480 lb.-ft but only 260 hp, which is expected.

Though it supplies extra torque, it actually has a max towing capacity of 12,56000 lbs which is 200 lbs lower than the 5.7L engine with eTorque.

Conclusion

The 2022 Ram 1500 has a towing capacity ranging from 6,120 – 12,750 lbs.

The engine type, drive, cab size, and bed size can all impact the towing capacity.

It is important to remember that these are to be used as a guide for your truck. There may be errors in this document, though I do my best to keep the information up to date and correct.

You should always do your own towing capacity calculations before you ever tow anything, especially those that are close to these limits.

What we Know So Far

The RAM Revolution, or to be known as RAM Rev, is a 2024 all electric vehicle to be released as a full-sized pickup truck.

It will likely start to take orders in 2024 and the production version will be released in the coming few months.

As this is a concept vehicle, there are things that still may change when the car goes into production.

Ram is the last of the major other competitors to release the concept of an EV truck, after the first concept from the Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T and Ford F150 Lightning are already on the road.

Chevy, GMC, and Toyota have all also previously released their concept of EV truck.

Even though it is a bit late in the game, it still wants to compete; it is making efforts to make a statement in the electric pickup truck market.

Exterior of the Revolution

The RAM revolution is riding on the electric truck look that was first coined by the Cybertruck.

It features a tall body, large cab, and a small truck bed (compared to similar trucks).

The extra space is due to the new STLE frame with is 4 inches longer than the current 2023 RAM 1500.

In the rear there is a diffuser that reduces drag to improve efficiency. The truck bed is equipped with a multifunction tailgate that opens like a double door, is powered and can extend the bed with an adjustable flooring.

In the front of the RAM Revolution is a new LED brand label.

On the front of the truck there are also tow hooks and an extended skid plate to offer extra off-roading capabilities.

As with most electric trucks, there is what is called a “frunk” or front truck, which is fully powered. What makes this feature quite unique is that there is a compartment that opens from the front trunk into the cab to accommodate large items (like many cars have for trunks.

On the side of the vehicle is the RAMBOX which has a dual tiered storage system with anchor rings for maximizing storage.

And to access the truck the concept includes a “pillarless” entryway with saloon style doors and powered side steps.

Interior of the Revolution

The interior is a very large and versatile cab. It has notably larger space throughout the cab, and especially in the rear compared to the 2023 RAM 1500.

There is likely going to be a 3rd row of seats! These are jump seats sitting in the back of the cab. The middle seats (or second row) are fully adjustable, seats which can fold flat and be repositioned to allow more space for cargo or third row passengers.

To follow along with the sustainability trend, RAM is designing the RAM Revolution interior materials to contain up to 74% polyester made from recycled water bottles and flooring made from recycled rubber and cork.

As mentioned in the prior section, the RAM Revolution has an opening that connects the front truck to the cab, but throughout the length of the truck running from the front trunk, cab and truck bed is a Ram Track Rail System lined on the floor to secure and support cargo throughout the vehicle. The center console can also be removed to create more space.

When it comes to the dashboard and control center in the front row, there are 28 inches of available touch screen area. It is composed of two screens with the bottom being removable.

Along with features iconic to the Tesla, there will be Level 3+ automomous driving control which means that it will allow for hands free driving to some extent (at the minimum) (Source: JD Power).

Our Opinion

What We Don’t Like

Upon first review of the RAM Revolution, we can honestly say that we do not like the design. It looks funny.

The large cab style, small windows, and tall base seem for a funny looking truck. Seems to us that they are trying to go for the Cybertruck look.

This feels a bit more like an oversized Crossover with a truck bed rather than a real pickup truck. The cab is just so big. I mean it has a third row! Trucks aren’t designed to be passenger cars and the RAM Revolution seems to be trying to cross that bridge between pickup trucks and crossovers.

The Ford F150 Lightning looks much better in our opinion. It looks more like a regular truck with some special features to make it feel more electric.

I also don’t love the idea of having 28 inches of display area. Though this will be a self-driving car (at least to an extent) there is no need for that much screen area.

What We Like

There are however, some really cool features on this truck. The first one to note is the Trail Rail System that extends throughout the entire truck. It is so cool to think that something, like a piece of wood could enter from the truck bed, and extend the length of the cab into the front truck to completely be encapsulated by the truck is wild.

I do appreciate their dedication and ability to incorporate recycled materials into the inside of the cab. As someone who cares about sustainability and reducing waste, this is great to see. Hopefully it can lead the way for new innovation.

And the last feature thats really interesting is the second screen being able to be removed. Though it is a bit excessive to have two screens on a dashboard, RAM has identified that they are making the second device detachable to be used basically as a in car tablet. Likely it will be able to be used for video watching for passengers, or sharing documents for workers on-site.

What We Don’t Know About the RAM Revolution

Because we have just been given the concept, there are lots of things that we still don’t know.

Though there was mention of potential range and charging capabilities, there is no official word really on the capabilities of the truck including estimated range, towing capacity, or payload capacity.

One of the biggest questions I have here is the “pillarless” design of the saloon doors. Structurally, I don’t think it is a good idea to have this format because it is not as safe as cars with mid frame beams. Along the idea of safety, we don’t know how this truck will match up to others.

And the last thing we don’t know of course, is the price. How will this align with what is currently on the market?

What is a Bolt Pattern?

A bolt pattern refers to the orientation and alignment of the bolts for a wheel. It refers to the number and the spacing of the required bolts for the rim to attach to the vehicle. This is also known as a lug pattern.

Bolt patterns cannot be changed without an adapter. The bolt pattern that comes with a car is standard to that vehicle.

The first number in a bolt pattern refers to the number of bolts. This value is usually 4, 5, 6, or 8.

The second number in a bolt pattern refers to the diameter of the lug circle. See the next section for examples on how to measure the diameter.

How to Measure Bolt Pattern?

Bolt pattern is measured by first counting the number of lugs on the wheel then measuring the diameter.

This diameter can be measured and presented in either inches or mm.

The diameter is measured by an imaginary circle that goes through the center of all the bolts. An example for a 4 bolt and 5 bolt pattern is shown below.

The diameter can be measured from the center point of one bolt to the center point of one across it. But an odd bolt pattern diameter is measured with an imaginary circle through the center of all the bolts.

Why is the Bolt Pattern Important?

You need to know the bolt pattern of your vehicle or truck in order to select the appropriate rims for your car. The bolts are what attach the rim and therefore the wheel/tire to your car. To install a rim to the car, the bolts must align with those of the vehicle.

If you have a rim that doesn’t match the exact bolt pattern of your vehicle, you may be able to use an adapter that can convert one bolt pattern to another.

These adapters, however, do also act as spacers. This means that your wheels will stick out more out of the side of your truck making your wheel track wider.

This is usually only done for cosmetic reasons. If using an adapter, you should not plan to use the car for towing or hauling. They tend to decrease the capabilities of the truck and usually cannot stand the high impact and power required to carry these loads.

How often should you change your oil?

According to the 2015 RAM 2500 owner’s manual, there is no specific time or mileage that should schedule a routine oil change.

There is a built-in oil change indicator system that will alert you when it is time for a scheduled maintenance.

The 6.4 L gas engine should never exceed an oil change passed 8,000 miles or 12 months between them. After the “oil change required” message, servicing should be completed within 500 miles.

RAM does mention that oil changes should never exceed 15,000 miles or 6 months between them.

Every time you perform an oil change you should also:

• replace the filter
• rotate your tires
• inspect battery
• inspect CV/Universal joints
• check transmission fluid
• check brake parts
• inspect exhaust system
• inspect engine cooling system and hoses
• check air filter
• inspect axle and steering components

For the Mopar filters, if they are not available, a filter should only be used that meets or exceeds SAE/USCAR-36 Filter Performance Requirements.

When operating with a total combined weight over 14,000 lbs, 5W-30 oil is recommended instead.
