Ford F150 Box Sizes
The Ford F150 series has a styleside type bed. The Styleside bed type is a Ford specific nomenclature for a fleetbed truck. This means that the sides of the truck are flat.
The other kind of bed type is the stepside (“flareside” by Ford) and this refers to the protrusion of the sides of the trucks over the wheels.
If you’ve ever seen a truck that sticks out on its side more than the truck bed, this is a stepside. This leaves a completely rectangular bed in the back.
The styleside trucks have indents over the wheels.
Ford offers 3 main styleside beds:
- 5.5 ft long
- 6.5 ft long
- 8.0 ft long
The shortest bed length is only offered in the Supercrew due to the extended nature of the cab site. It also cannot go up to 8.0 ft long to keep the truck at a reasonable size.

What is curb weight and why is it important?
Curb weight is just a fancy term for the weight a car has immediately following manufacturing with a full tank of gas. This means it is the total weight of the car without any additional passengers or extra modifications.
Each manufacturer lists the curb weight based on the trim, size and engine type.
All values recorded here are the curb weight of the vehicle.
Once you add a passenger, modifications, or cargo, the weight of your truck increases.
Why is this important?
Well, the curb weight helps you determine the amount of extra weight you can carry in your truck. The GVWR is the gross vehicle weight rating which is the maximum total weight your truck can safely handle.
This means that all weight including the weight of the truck, passengers, cargo, and tongue weight of a hitch cannot exceed the GVWR.
In order to determine the maximum load that can be added to a truck, you must subtract the curb weight from the GVWR. This is also known as the payload capacity.
The curb weight is also important to help determine the towing capcity of your Ford F-150.
