The 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 has four engine options available in the family.
Below are the oil types and capacities for each engine. You will also find the recommended oil filters for each engine.

Dodge recommends that you use Mopar approved products for both the oil and filters listed below.
For the Mopar filters, if they are not available, a filter should only be used that meets or exceeds SAE/USCAR-36 Filter Performance Requirements.
All the products listed below, however, come from the Mopar Amazon shop.
I found the recommendations for the oil type and capacities from the 2006 Dodge RAM owners manual, and 2006 SLT Dodge RAM 1500 owners manual but found the oil filter type recommendations from the Mopar Store.

How often should you change your oil?
According to the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 owner’s manual, an oil change should occur every 6,000 miles or 6 months at the max.
There are some conditions in which oil should be changed every 3,000 miles, so you should check if those apply to you.
Every time you perform an oil change you should also:
- replace the filter
- inspect hoses for brakes and lines

Hey Joey,
Thanks for the information. Do you recommend the ZDDP Supplement for a 2006 5.7 hemi wigh 170K+ miles? Also, I don’t see that the full syn is recommended. Y/N?
Also, I am looking to see if the 2006 hemi has an oil level sensor. I have seen a diagram, but can’t determine where on the crankcase it would be. My son ran the truck low on oil and didn’t receive a low oil warning until the pressure sensor threw a check engine code. He will be more observant, but still wondering about a level indicator as other vehicles have.
Thank you.
